YEREVAN, July 4, /ARKA/. European Council President Charles Michel said in a tweet that he had discussed with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev all the issues on the Brussels agenda for dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
He said he stressed the importance for EU of a stable, secure and peaceful South Caucasus.
'We will continue support in addressing humanitarian, connectivity & border issues, as well as a future peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan,' he said.
After the May 22 meeting between Aliyev and Armenian MP Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels, facilitated by Michel, the later said in a statement that both leaders agreed on the need to proceed with unblocking the transport links, on the principles to govern transit between western Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan, and between different parts of Armenia via Azerbaijan, as well as international transport through communications infrastructure of both countries.
'Notably they agreed on principles of border administration, security, land fees but also customs in the context of international transport. The Deputy Prime Ministers will take this work forward in the coming days,' Michel said.
